A little bit of history....

Bang on the Door was founded by two designers, Karen Duncan & Samantha Stringle, in a cold flat above a butcher’s shop in North London. The brand starts with the sale of t-shirts on a stall at Camden Market. The strong, simple & humourous images of animals with black outlines & bold, flat colours proved very popular with people of all ages & formed the distinctive style of Bang on the Door

Market sales boom. We exhibit at gift trade fairs & wholesale orders start to grow. Exclusive cards & wraps are designed for Paperchase and designs are created for Greenpeace & Friends of the Earth.

We design the Comic Relief t-shirt for 2 consecutive years & exhibit at numerous trade & retail shows including the Clothes Show Live Event. People characters are introduced & the iconic Groovy Chick, the first design-led tween queen, is born.

Increasing popularity & demand heralds Bang on the Door’s entry into licensing. Design-led licensing programme takes off & a UK agent is appointed. Within 4 years we have 60+ licensees.

Bang on the Door was the winner of Brand of the Year, and Groovy Chick was nominated for Character of the Year. Groovy Chick voted 9th in the Top Ten Characters in Licensing. Make it Groovy TV Ad promotes our branded magazine with Eagle Moss

We were voted Best Property Progression by Toy News. Groovy Chick voted 5th Top Ten Characters in Licensing. We were also winner of the Best Licensed Range in Back to School Stationery and Best Use of Character. Our baby plush was given Doll/Soft Toy Gold Award and Best Toy Award by Right Start.

Our Fairy Girl party ware was the No.1 Best Seller across multiple UK retailers. With Football Crazy No.4 Best Seller across multiple retailers. Website launch. Launch of brand new ‘FABric Animals’

We celebrated 10 international agents & 21 years of success. We secured a direct to retail deal with Mothercare. Our Licensee ‘Primary Teaching Services’ was nominated for Stationery Licensing Award.

We had our first exhibition in Las Vegas & exhibition in Hong Kong. An extensive range of car seats was developed for FABric animals with Transtek.

We design a full range for Derry~Londonderry City of Culture Year, including illustrations of iconic buildings, monuments and cultural events.

Development of FABric animals & Emily Plays app in association with Northern Ireland Screen. We welcome a re launch of original t shirts & original mugs.

Lots of Groovy Chick nostalgia from Zoella and other influencers on social media. We developed characters for animation through web, film and TV. DRi Licensing take on Groovy Chick.
